How Do I Hear From Jesus?

Many who want to know God’s will are waiting to hear from God as Moses did with a burning bush, or as Samuel did by hearing an audible voice while he was sleeping, or even waiting for God to send an angel to bring us a message as He did for Mary and Joseph to tell them about the birth of Jesus. God does speak in these ways, but these are not the only ways He speaks.

There is good news! God used His servants and messengers to write down a history of God’s relationship with his people. It is available and waiting… free to most of us with internet access. The Bible is the inspired word of God. By reading, studying, asking questions, and discussing with fellow Christians we can hear from God anytime we want… and then apply what we hear to how we live our lives.

The first step… we must start on the right path. The Bible holds this answer as well.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.  [John 14:6 NLT]

Building on that, God calls us in Proverbs 3:5-7 to acknowledge Him in all we do and to trust Him.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
