As we have been reading in Matthew 10, being a disciple is often difficult. There should be no expectation of a life of comfort without stress. But there are rewards as well. Yeshua speaks of rewarding those who help His messengers and servants. He wants us to help one another as brothers and sisters in faith.
The Reward of Service
40“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. 41“He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42“And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.”
There are other references throughout scripture to rewards associated with serving Yahweh. It is real. It can be a very interesting Bible study to understand what kind of rewards one may receive as well. They are not necessarily earthly rewards of wealth but may also be in drawing nearer in relationship with the LORD and also rewards in heaven. However, we submit to and follow Yeshua not for rewards, but rather because we love Him and because He is LORD of our life. He then, as our master, takes care of us and rewards us. If we serve Him only for the rewards, that is an entirely selfish motive and not one submitted to Him.
We must have the right attitude, accepting Yeshua as LORD and Savior, to be saved. It is more than claiming His name and doing certain “good” actions. Let us remember what Yeshua Himself said in Matthew 7.
21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
If you have never truly accepted Yeshua as LORD and master, now is a good time. Consider reading more about salvation through The Message of the Cross.
