Hebrews seems to be very focused in the first two chapters about angels and the importance of Yeshua as higher than the angels. It would seem that some people were perhaps too focused on angels and not enough on Messiah. Perhaps they questioned why the Messiah would come as a man rather than an angel, thus doubting Yeshua as Messiah.
To be clear, angels are messengers for YHWH. Yeshua is over all things, even though we may not see it yet manifested in a way we expect. Yeshua is one with the Father.
He became fully man and fully god and walked among us. Hebrews 2 clearly refers back to Psalm 8, which celebrates YHWH’s creation and his putting man in charge over creation. Perhaps in this reminder about man’s position over creation, the writer intends to continue to make the case for why it makes sense that Messiah would come as a man rather than an angel.
Earth Subject to Man
5For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.
6But one has testified somewhere, saying,
“WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM?
OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
7“YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS;
YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR,
AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
8YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
