Yeshua Feeds 5,000… Consider it as if Reading of It for the First Time

Sometimes we may start to take for granted some miracles that Yeshua has performed, because we have heard it so much. Read this as if for the first time. Consider it as if you were there witnessing it. Imagine how amazing it really is that our Lord did this miracle.

Matthew 14:13-21

Five Thousand Fed

13Now when Jesus heard about John, He withdrew from there in a boat to a secluded place by Himself; and when the people heard of this, they followed Him on foot from the cities. 14When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick.

15When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, “This place is desolate and the hour is already late; so send the crowds away, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat!” 17They said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” 18And He said, “Bring them here to Me.” 19Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds, 20and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets. 21There were about five thousand men who ate, besides women and children.

Perhaps the first lesson for us in this scripture would be that Yeshua wanted to find seclusion to be alone, perhaps with the Father. The people were so desperate for Him, they followed. He felt compassion on them and put their needs above His own. There is a lot even there to unpack and we did not get to the miracles yet!

Do we choose the needs of others over our own? Do we feel compassion for others that strongly?

He healed their sick. Such a short, quick line to read. So impactful to dwell on. Don’t pass it up. He healed their sick so long it became evening. The people were getting hungry and the disciple were wanting to provide for them. The disciples were rightly concerned for the people, even if they did not anticipate the miraculous feeding of the 5000.

Yeshua then does the miracle of feeding so many that we have all heard so often. Consider it as if hearing it for the first time. It is truly amazing. There was more left over than when He started.

The next time you face an “impossible” situation, consider what the Lord is able to do. Ask Him to help you, to lead you, and to draw you into His plans rather than for you to bring your plans to Him and ask Him to make them happen.
