Our Lord, Yeshua, truly humbled Himself to come amongst us. He is God, King of All, and yet He humbled Himself to meager means as He went about doing the Father’s work in proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. He was humble enough to accept the support of others who wanted to help Him and the twelve.
These few verses are often overlooked, but even here there is rich treasure to be found if we pause long enough to look. Jesus focused on His mission and others who could do so, willingly supported Him and the twelve. Jesus demonstrates through His example how we are to help one another, each with our own abilities and gifts, in doing God’s work.
Ministering Women
1Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, 2and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.
Of course Yeshua could have just made the money show up… as He did to pay the temple tax with a coin in a fish’s mouth (Matthew 17:27)… but He did not do it that way. I believe He wanted to demonstrate how we can and should support one another in proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God.
He wants us to be actively involved in sharing the gospel!
