If God’s plan ends with His people living in His presence, serving Him, and seeing His face, how should that future shape what you pursue today?
Key Verse
“There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him.” — Revelation 22:3 (NASB)
Background Context
In Revelation 21:1–8, John saw a new heaven and new earth and heard YHWH declare, “Behold, I am making all things new.” In Revelation 21:9–27, John was shown the New Jerusalem in greater detail. Its greatest treasure was not its gold, pearls, or precious stones, but the presence of God and the Lamb.
Now in Revelation 22:1–5, John sees what flows from God’s throne and what life in His presence will be like. The imagery reaches all the way back to Genesis. The tree of life that appeared in Eden appears again, but now there is no serpent, no separation from God, and “no longer… any curse.”
The story that began with humanity losing access to the tree of life ends with God’s redeemed people dwelling with Him and freely receiving life from Him.
(Continued and expanded after scripture.)
The River and the Tree of Life
1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
May the grace and peace of our Lord, Yeshua, be with you.
